Digital Ticket UI/UX Design

Horizon Railways

A smartphone-based digital ticket experience designed to modernize Horizon Railways’ paper ticket system while improving usability, information access, and travel convenience.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Designing a Smarter Digital Ticket Experience

Horizon Railways is expanding its passenger rail service and wanted to bring its traditional paper tickets into the digital space through a smartphone-based digital wallet experience. The project focused on creating digital ticket designs that preserve the essential information from the existing ticket while introducing new features that improve the travel experience, including seat visualization and Wi-Fi availability.

New Digital Features

01 ─────

Seat Visualization

A visual representation of the assigned seat was introduced as a new element in the digital ticket.

02 ─────

Wi-Fi Availability

The ticket indicates whether Wi-Fi is provided on the train.

DESIGN PROCESS

Developing the Ticket Experience in Figma

The ticket concepts were developed in Figma using Auto Layout, components, and duplicated frames to
maintain consistent dimensions, spacing, and reusable interface elements across three ticket designs.
01 ─────

Auto Layout

Auto Layout helped manage spacing, alignment, and structure across the three ticket designs without requiring every element to be repositioned manually.

02 ─────

Visual Direction

Reusable components helped keep elements such as seat indicators, Wi-Fi icons, and information cards consistent across the ticket designs.

03 ─────

Design Variations

Duplicating frames made it possible to test different design variations while maintaining the same dimensions and required ticket information.

04 ─────

User Experience

The design process considered the needs of both Alex and Emily, incorporating features such as seat visualization and Wi-Fi information to improve usability and convenience.
